Royal Victoria Hospital - Folkestone

Royal Victoria Hospital Folkestone

Date : 9-06-2020
Location Folkstone

We had known about this abandoned hospital for a long time and had wanted to explore it for quite a while. When we found out that the security was no longer present, we decided to head to Folksted and begin our exploration of the abandoned hospital. It was in a state of decay and stripped of most of its contents. We did find some remaining items inside, including a few baby scans, which was quite sad to see. However, the most concerning aspect was the large number of documents left lying around, many of which contained private information. Overall, the exploration itself was good.

The hospital was established in 1846, but it was scaled down in the late 1970s. In 1973, the maternity ward was moved, and over the years, other parts of the hospital also relocated out of the building. The A&E department closed down, leaving only the minor injuries unit. Eventually, this part of the hospital also closed and was converted into flats.
