Citadel Battery is located West of the main fortifications on the Western Heights. It lies outside of the defensive ditch system which surrounds the Western Outworks and Citadel and is a later addition to the area's defences. Construction began in 1898 and was completed in around 1901.

Not much i can find on this place - what i have  picked up from a number of different reports online is :

was used in ww2 

once i was abandoned  apparently Fire services used the tunnels for training when  they was digging out the channel tunnel.

When the air raid sirens sounded, people would flee their homes for the night and make their way to the tunnels seeking protection from the bombs. There was enough room for 2,535 people, but numbers often stretched to double this in times of need.
