Exploring this fort was quite an interesting experience. The journey to reach the fort was a nice, long walk, and there was the added excitement of climbing inside the fort. Unfortunately, the lower levels of the fort are currently flooded and inaccessible.

According to historical records, the fort was constructed in the late 1860s, and it was built to protect the area against sea attacks. The fort is located in line with an Essex fort. sea attacks. The fort is located in line with an Essex fort

There is an air-raid shelter located on Salt Lane in Cliffe. Though there isn't much information available about the shelter's history, it is believed to have been used by nearby workers or residents during the war. Despite being visible, the shelter tends to get overgrown at times. Unfortunately, the inside of the shelter has been badly damaged due to people burning paper inside it.
