Calshot castle - Southampton

 Calshot castle

Date:   April 2022

Location: Southampton

Public or Abandoned:   Public

Demolished:   No

we took a 2hr drive down to Southampton -  and stop off at Calshot castle, we didn't spend long there as the castle itself is not very big - we spent prob a max 30 mins looking around the castle -  but with the nice weather it made the trip worth it,

its said that Calshot Castle is an artillery fort, and it was built between 1539/1540 by king henry VIII ,

due to the first world war, the castle was used for seaplane deploy,   and it said due to second world war  it was re-armed for possible german invasion

after the war - the fort was still used for the seaplanes but as they come obsolete and finally closed in 1961, it was used by coast guard for a short period of time before English heritage took over in the 1980s and restored it back to the pre 1914

We've been wanting to do fort Brockhurst for a while now, we took the 2hr 30 min drive to Gosport, we arrived at Gosport around about 11am and parked in the little carpark next to the fort, the fort was free entry, once inside we took our time and works are way around fort the fort one way so we didn't miss a thing ( one way no required ) we also got to see Cumberland guards in actions - Somethings I have never seen before. so that was pretty interesting we also have very nice weather too :D

so it is said that fort Brockhurst is around 1850 and was used to protect Portsmouth, due second world war the fort did suffer some bomb damage, the site is largely unaltered, it is also scheduled as an ancient monument, and English heritage owns the site.
