I recently went to Cliffe for a different reason, but while I was there, I decided to check out the ROC post. Even though I knew that it was closed, I wanted to explore the different ROC posts in the Medway towns area. It's a shame that the ROC post has been left abandoned and neglected as it was well hidden. According to the information, this particular post was opened in 1961 but was closed in 1968. My friend and I were taking a walk around the marsh area when I kept hearing about an old explosive factory located nearby. I had never seen it before, so I was intrigued and wanted to take a closer look. Unfortunately, I couldn't get too close, so I used a long lens on my camera to capture some pictures. The factory, known as Cliffe Explosive Works, was established in the 1890s. Today, only a few buildings remain standing, while others are now buried. It was once a chemical explosive factory.

While walking around the marsh, I stumbled upon a small bunker that I had never seen before. Intrigued, I wanted to discover more about this area since I had never ventured this far into the marsh. Although the bunker was mostly empty, it was still an interesting find. According to a local, the old decoy airfield is believed to date back to 1941-1942.

Exploring this fort was an intriguing experience. The journey to reach the fort involved a pleasant, long walk, and there was an added thrill in climbing inside. Unfortunately, the lower levels of the fort are currently flooded and inaccessible.

According to historical records, the fort was constructed in the late 1860s to protect the area from sea attacks. It is situated in alignment with another fort in Essex.

There is an air-raid shelter located on Salt Lane in Cliffe. Although there isn't much information available about its history, it is thought to have been used by nearby workers or residents during the war. The shelter is visible but often becomes overgrown. Unfortunately, its interior has been badly damaged because people have been burning paper inside.
