Margate caves

Margate Caves

location: Margate
Date :  2-2-2020
Current state: Tour based

The Margate Caves were stunning to see and reasonably priced for a visit. I had always wanted to explore them, so when I learned they had reopened to the public, I eagerly went to take a look. These caves were dug in the 18th century and have been open to visitors since 1843, although they closed in 2004. Thankfully, they have reopened to the public once again.

Shell Grotto - Margate

Shell Grotto

Date : 14-07-2019
Location : Margate

While exploring Margate, we decided to check out the Shell Grotto. There is a small entrance fee, but the experience is fascinating. Many of the seashells are incredibly interesting to look at. The only downside is that, because it is a tourist attraction, it can get very busy quickly. It is said that the walls and roof are covered in mosaics made entirely from seashells

Margate - Air raid shelter

Margate Air-raid shelter

Date : 14-07-2019
Location : kent

We arrived in Margate early to explore this location. After parking, we walked to the manhole cover, lifted it up, and went inside. Although the space was very small, it still had a lot of intact features, including some signs. However, there isn't much history available about this air-raid shelter.

Margate lido

Date - June 2017
Location - Margate
Delmoished - No

We visited Margate for a fun day and made a short stop at the Lido, which we had always wanted to see in person. To be honest, there wasn't much to see, but people were relaxing at the Lido since it was a warm day. It was noted that the Lido was built by the owner of Dreamland and used to be a significant and vibrant part of the town until the 1970s. The last event held at the Lido was a disco.

Margate Lido - Margate

Margate lido

Date: August 2015

Location:  Margate

Demolished:  No

During our visit to Margate, I decided to explore the lido. To my surprise, we were able to enter with ease and spent several enjoyable hours there.

I discovered that the lido was built by John Henry Iles, who also created Dreamland. Unfortunately, the pool was shut down in the 1980s and has since fallen into disrepair.
