I and two other people went on a shorts tunnels tour - ( iv been on one of the tours before and also have been in tunnels back in 2013-2015 before they were tour base only ) so I knew the layout of the tunnels and I knew what there was in the tunnels - but to my surprise, I saw more stuff this time that I haven't seen before.

the nice thing about the tour was there were not many people who were on it. and it was pretty relaxed

It is said that shorts tunnel Rochester can backdate to just before World war 2 -  Shorts tunnels is apparently one of the longest underground air-raid shelters in the UK

Its tunnels was used for air-raid shelter during the bombing and also had an underground factory connected to it that made the seaplanes.

The site was later abandoned and the factory above ground was demolished as the housing company started to build houses the shorts tunnels underground factory was left to decay.

In 2016 all the event shafts were blocked up to prevent access into the tunnels -

Shorts Tunnels Elevator shaft - Rochester

Shorts Tunnels Elevator shaft

Date:   April

Location: Rochester

Demolished:  Yes

I don't have much to say about this place, as there isn't really much to discuss. The elevator used to go up to a factory that was above ground, but it was demolished to make way for a housing development. In late 2016, the elevator shaft was filled in to prevent people from entering.

While I was in the old elevator shaft, I discovered paperwork dating back to 1995, which led me to believe that the tunnels might have still been in use until that year. There was also a safe in that location that I always wondered about, but no one was ever able to open it.
