This was our first exploration of the day, and we had about four or five locations planned in total. When we arrived, we thought the place was sealed, but after snooping around, we found a way in. My daughter, my friend, and I walked around inside, and my friend explained how much it has changed over the past year. The site is in an extremely sorry state, but it was pretty cool to see. What made the place semi-spooky was the sound of someone clay shooting in the distance, which echoed throughout the entire building.
The factory was built around the 1950s and was the first of its kind in the UK. It housed the Bomber Command's photographic reconnaissance squadron, located slightly away from the airfield. The site was intended to carry out reconnaissance before and after strikes to help support nuclear V-bombs.
It was designed to process film taken from planes using darkrooms. The facility was operational until around the 1990s when it closed down due to advancements in camera technologh
