Rosherville Gardens - Northfleet / Gravesend

Rosherville gardens

Date: April 2016

Location: Northfleet - Gravesend

Demolished:  No

During our exploration of the AEI tunnels and the nearby factory, we decided to visit Rosherville Gardens. Although not much of the garden remained, it was still fascinating to see the remnants that were left, even though they were not easy to find. I'll admit, I am a bit scared of heights. We learned that the garden was built into a chalk pit previously owned by Jeremiah Rosher, which is likely how it got its name. Construction of the area began in 1830 when it became part of the town we now know. According to the information we found, people once visited the gardens for recreational purposes, and there used to be a bear pit there.
