Hilsea lines
Date: May 2015
Location: Portsmouth
Public or Abandoned: Public and Abandoned
Demolished: No
For the most part of the fort, you can explore the remains by walking around the sea lines. However, to see the casemates and other parts of the fort, you need to come off the beaten path. We found this out by mistake, but it was a lovely walk around the site.
The fort was built in the 18th to 19th century to protect Portsea, as Portsmouth was a key naval base during wartime..
