It is free for the public to visit the fort, but there is a small fee to access the tunnels (which I have yet to explore). A visit to Fort Amherst is an excellent way to spend a day with your family while you're in the Medway towns.
Fort Amherst is among the several forts situated around Medway towns, which serve the purpose of safeguarding the docks against invasion. It is believed that Fort Amherst was constructed in 1756.
