St Mary ( Ruins ) Ashford - Kent

St Marys ( Ruins)

Date:   December 2015

Location: Ashford

Demolished:  No

We took a short drive near Puckley, and on our way, we discovered some charming church ruins. The ruins are said to have been built around the year 1500, but sadly, they were damaged during World War II by a V-1 flying bomb, commonly known as a "doodlebug." Unfortunately, not much more information can be found about the ruins.

Greenwich North Footpath - Greenwich

Greenwich North footpath

Date:   December 2015

Location: Greenwich

Demolished:  No

The footpath is a fascinating route to explore, although it can be quite long. Construction of the tunnel began in 1899, and it finally opened to the public in 1902. While there are suggestions that the tunnel may have been used as an air-raid shelter during wartime, there is no definitive information to confirm this.,

Unicorn house - Chichester

Unicorn House

Date:  October 2015

Location: Chichester

Demolished:  Yes

I saw some workers outside a building and asked if I could take a look inside. To my surprise, they allowed me to enter and explore. The building, known as Unicorn House, was quite spacious but largely empty at the time. It has since been converted into a Sainsbury's grocery store..

Sally Port/Brompton Air-raid shelter - Brompton

Sally Port/Brompton Air-raid shelter

Date: September

Location: Gillingham

Demolished:  No

I'm not very familiar with this air-raid shelter, but it is the only one still standing in the area. These shelters were built to protect locals during air raids. This particular shelter is quite small and easily accessible; I simply had to move the gate to walk inside. It doesn’t extend very far..

Frindsbury Chalkpit - Strood

Finsbury chalkpit

Date:   August 2015

Location: Strood

Demolished:  Yes

I don’t have much information about the old chalk pit in Finsbury. However, during my exploration, I came across an old tunnel that runs beneath the chalk pit. Unfortunately, I couldn’t take any photos of the tunnel’s interior because my camera ran out of battery..

St Michaels Mount - Cornwall

St Michaels Mount

Date:   August 2015

Location: Cornwall

Demolished:  No

The location of the village dates back to the 12th century, though it was rebuilt in the 15th century. Today, the site is owned by the National Trust.

Visitors can reach the island either by boat or on foot, depending on the tide. During our visit, we had to take a boat due to high tide, which caused us to miss the crossing. The castle is a must-see and definitely worth visiting..
