ROC Post west sussex - Open day Cuckfield

Cuckfield ROC Post

Date : August 2024
Location : West sussex
public/abandoned - Public
Delmoished - No

I came across an advertisement on Facebook stating that the Cuckfield nuclear bunker would be open to the public this weekend. I decided to drive down to see it for myself.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the bunker restored and open to the public. It was quite a unique experience. I would definitely recommend others to visit during the next open day.

According to the information provided, the Royal Observer Corps post was originally opened in 1962, closed in 1968, reopened in 1970, and finally closed in 1991. Unlike most ROC posts, this one remained abandoned until 2007. Restoration work began in 2009 and was completed by 2010.

I had this on my “to do “ list for a while now, so on a late Wednesday evening we hopped in the car and dove the hour and bit down to the mill, was surprised that it was so easy to get to ( on the public footpath ) anyways once we got there the sun was setting fast and didn’t really have much time

it said that the mill was built in 1884, and closed down in 1969

the mill went though so major changed such a fire in 1908, and water power until 1945

there are plans to turn the old mill into flats but nothing has gone through yet.

On our way home - we made a little stop off to Petworth chapel, This chapel is so small but gives off a creepy vibe -

To my surprise, I didn’t realize how open and public the graveyard the chapel sits on was,

We got out of the car and walk straight up to the chapel open the door and walked in, the explore itself took no longer than 5 mins

The gravestone that is around the chapel was very interesting too!

it said that the chapel is in a bad sorry state of repair,

can not find to much on this chapel online -
