This is one location I won't be hurrying back to again. You have to descend a steep section of the cliff face to reach it. Once you arrive at the entrance, which I believe was an escape hatch, you'll find it quite caved in. You must be very careful where you step to avoid knocking any stones loose, as the entire area is very unstable. Inside, like most deep shelters, it loops back on itself with the same layout of two tunnels and some small intersections. The exploration was interesting, partly because it was constructed in 1941 and was used during the war.

Gaining access to the magazine room was not easy due to the cold weather, which made the floor slippery. Once inside, the room still retained some original features, but there were numerous cracks in the walls, which made the environment feel quite unsafe.

It is said that the Lyden Spout battery was built in 1941. Originally, it housed six Mark VII naval guns, but it was later updated to include 24 guns on the same mounts. The battery is located south of the A20, and 90% of it was demolished. Only the plotting room, tunnels, mess room, and magazine room have survived.

Right next to the mess rooms was the entrance to the battery plotting room, which had no lid. Looking down the ladder into the hole felt both spooky and scary. It was cold, and the surface was also slippery. Once we climbed down inside, we took a look around; there wasn't much to see other than an empty shell and lots of graffiti. The plotting room was part of the battery located in the Lydden area. This also included a deep shelter, the plotting room, and several other buildings, all of which were used during the war.
