I'm unsure if that is the real name of the quarry or what, but that is what has been said by several different local people,  This equipment has been there for many years and I have explored it many of times, but never knew what it was, It said that before the house was built it was an old quarry and the equipment that been left behind would help clean the stone.

oare country park - Faversham - Kent

 Oare Country Park

                                            Date: May
                                           Location:   Faversham
                                           Abandoned or Public : Public
                                           Delmoished: N0

I visited this place a few years ago, but the photo I took was not very good, so I wanted to take some new photos of the area. The country park is free to visit, and even the car park is free. The walk around the gunpowder works is relatively small, but there are plenty of other walks to explore if you're looking for somewhere to walk. The factory is in ruins and decaying in some parts, but there are plaques on each part explaining what it used to be.

It is said that the site was founded around 1690. Huguenot refugees were encouraged to settle in Faversham. Up until the 17th century, it was more focused on French gunpowder production technology, but in the 17th century, it advanced more towards English ore works. The gunpowder works slowly expanded and upgraded throughout its working life. It closed down around 1934, and then in 1977, Swale took out a 150-year lease on the land. In 1991, the site became a scheduled ancient monument.

Dumpy B / Archcliffe galliers / Drop Redoute - Magazine Rooms

Dumpy B / Archcliffe  / Drop Redoute - Magazine Rooms

                                           Location:  Dover
                                           Abandoned or Public : abandoned

"I just wanted to quickly share that I recently visited some places that I have reported on many times in my blog. While showing some people around the area, I took some photos. Unfortunately, everything except for Archcliffe has become more decayed and overgrown."

Archcliffe Galleries

Archcliffe is a place I always seem to go back to when I'm in Dover, and each time nothing has changed. This visit was also quick, and I was in and out within 10 minutes.

The history of this place is a bit tough to find, and I can't seem to find much information. It is said that it used to be part of a Napoleonic fort that got distorted when a new road was built.

Dumpy B:

I've visited Dumpy B a few times, and the place always gives me the creeps. Sadly, it has become more decayed and seems to be getting more dangerous to be in. During my quick visit, I was in and out within about 20 minutes.

The bunker was built in late 1942 and was one of the Joint Operation headquarters. It's said that NT (National Trust) is trying to make it safe, similar to what they did with Fan Bay, but nothing has come of it yet.

Drop Redoubt Battery

I have only been here once in the past and then forgot about it until recently. It has become very overgrown and forgotten about, sadly.

It's said that the planning started around 1853 and had 8-8" guns but changed to 42" in 1868. The magazine room was added around 1876 but seems to be the only visible thing to this date.

Hougham Battery 2024 Update - Dover

Hougham Battery

                                            Date: May
                                           Location:  Dover
                                           Abandoned or Public : Public
                                           Delmoished: N0

I recently visited Hougham Battery in Dover to take some updated photos. It was not my first time there, but I noticed a lot of changes since my last visit in 2018. The battery has decayed even more, likely due to its location on the seafront. They have also started to block off access to the inside of the battery, so it might soon be completely closed to the public. It took us about 40 minutes to walk to the battery from where we parked. Even though our visit was brief, I wanted to capture some updated photos before it's too late.

Hougham Battery was built in 1941 and served as a coastal defense battery during World War II. It was equipped with three 8-inch Mark VIII naval guns and manned by the men of the 520 Coastal Regiment of the Royal Artillery.

Whatman Park Type 22 pillbox - Maidstone - Kent

 Type 22 pillbox

                                           Date: May
                                           Location:  Maidstone
                                           Abandoned or Public : Public
                                           Delmoished: N0

When I was taking my 3-year-old to the park, we decided to take a different route. On our way, we came across a pillbox. The doorway had been bricked up and the entrance was buried in the mud, but I managed to take some photos through the window. When my 3-year-old saw it, she was really excited and ran over to it, saying "wow."

This pillbox is a type 22, and it dates back to around WW2. It was used as part of the G.H.Q defence line. Other than that, I cannot find any more history on it.
