Hougham Battery 2024 Update - Dover
Hougham Battery
Date: May
Location: Dover
Abandoned or Public : Public
Delmoished: N0
I recently visited Hougham Battery in Dover to take some updated photos. It was not my first time there, but I noticed a lot of changes since my last visit in 2018. The battery has decayed even more, likely due to its location on the seafront. They have also started to block off access to the inside of the battery, so it might soon be completely closed to the public. It took us about 40 minutes to walk to the battery from where we parked. Even though our visit was brief, I wanted to capture some updated photos before it's too late.
Hougham Battery was built in 1941 and served as a coastal defense battery during World War II. It was equipped with three 8-inch Mark VIII naval guns and manned by the men of the 520 Coastal Regiment of the Royal Artillery.
