Hougham battery
The sun was setting, but we were on a mission to check out Hougham Battery. To my surprise, I was shocked to see how accessible the battery was and how much of it had been left open to the public. Some parts of the battery even still had original features, which was nice to see.
Hougham Battery was built in 1941 and served as a coastal defense battery during World War II. It was equipped with three 8-inch Mark VIII naval guns and was manned by the men of the 520 Coastal Regiment of the Royal Artillery.
