Margate lido

We decided to spend a fun day in Margate and made a short stop at the Lido, a place we had always wanted to visit. As we approached, we were greeted by the sight of people basking in the sun and enjoying the warm weather, even though the Lido itself was somewhat unassuming and didn’t have much to offer in terms of attractions. Historically, the Lido holds an interesting place in Margate’s story. It was constructed by the owner of Dreamland amusement park and served as a vibrant social hub for the town until the 1970s. In its heyday, it was a lively spot where families and friends gathered to enjoy the sun and take part in various events. The last major event hosted at the Lido was a disco, which added to its legacy as a cherished locale in the community's history. Although our visit was brief, it was fascinating to reflect on the Lido’s past and the role it once played in the lives of many people in Margate.
