HMS WILDFIRE - Gillingham

HMS WILDFIRE

Date : April 2018
Location : Medway
Status : sealed

tunnels and had been wanting to explore them, but the doors had always been sealed. When I heard that there was a way in, I headed down to the tunnels to take a look. When we arrived, we found that there were around 40 different groups of urban explorers present, so I guess everyone had the same idea as these tunnels are rare to see.,

According to the information, the Wildfire has been associated with Chatham for many years. In 1983, the Wildfire HQ opened its doors at a new location. However, in 1988, it was used as a training operations HQ, and the name HMS Wildfire was transferred to a new unit in London. Shortly after 2007, the doors on Wildfire were completely sealed as they had built a new college on the land.

HMS Wildfire Remains - Chatham

HMS Wildfire Remains

Date:  Feb

Location:  Chatham

Demolished:  No

There are two doors located in the moat just behind Mid Kent College. These doors lead to a large underground complex known as HMS Wildfire.

The specific purposes of the tunnels remain largely unknown. The photo below shows what is left above ground. It is believed that HMS Wildfire was constructed in 1937 and was utilized during the war before being abandoned. The site was forgotten and overgrown until the college took ownership of the grounds and rediscovered the doors.
