Fort George, Highland

Fort George

Date: June 2016

Location: Lochness

Demolished:  No

Yesterday, we visited Fort George, located in the Scottish Highlands. Although it was a chilly and rainy day, we had a great time. We arrived at the fort when it opened and stayed until it closed. The fort was quite large and impressive.

Built in the 18th century, Fort George was constructed to help control the Highland regions of Scotland. It is interesting to note that the fort was never attacked. Originally known as Old Fort George in 1726, it was abandoned by the start of the 18th century. The fort was designed to accommodate up to 400 troops.

Urquhart Castle - Scotland

Urquhart Castle

Date: June 2016

Location: Lochness

Demolished:  No

It was a very cold and wet day when we set out to explore the castle. Despite the unfavorable weather, it was still a fascinating place to visit, with many people coming to see it. Thanks to our English Heritage pass, we were also able to access several Scottish sites. The castle is believed to date back to the 13th to 16th centuries, although it may be even older. It played a significant role in the Scottish Wars of Independence and offers stunning views of Loch Ness.
