Slough Fort - Allhallows - Kent
Slough Fort
I have visited Slough Fort before, but this time I returned to complete the Wheels of Time trail because we are collecting badges for my daughter, and Slough Fort was part of it. I must say it was really nice to go back and see the fort again, especially since they have done more work on it since my last visit. I noticed many improvements and also discovered things I had never seen before.
Our guide was very informative as well.
I learned that Slough Fort is a small fort located in Allhallows, Kent. It was built in 1867 in a D shape. By 1912, all the guns had been removed from the fort, but during World War I, it was used as a command post. The fort was decommissioned in 1920 and was sold off in 1929.
From the 1960s, the fort was used as stables, but from late 2012 to early 2013, it received partial restoration funded by the camp, bringing it to its current state.
