Maidstone Zoo - Gate House Remains Permission Visit

Maidstone Zoo Gatehouse remains

Date: March 2020
Location sandling
Abandoned or public:  permission is required
Delmoished: No

After learning about the Maidstone Gatehouse, I searched Google to see if it still existed. Surprisingly, I discovered that the gatehouse remains intact. On our way back from Maidstone, we made a quick stop to visit the place. We asked the owner if it was okay to take some photos and videos, and he agreed but warned us that we were doing so at our own risk. We then retrieved our camera from the car and proceeded to take pictures of the old gatehouse ruins.

It was an interesting place to photograph, where nature has taken over the gatehouse and left it to rot away on the site.

According to reports, Maidstone Zoo was managed by Sir Garrard Tyrwhitt Drake. The zoo opened in 1934 and became a popular attraction. Unfortunately, it closed its doors to the public in 1959.

Date: 17-03- 2020
Current state: You can visit  on walks

We were just walking around the woods as we had recently discovered it. The air-raid shelter was used in World War II and was one of five camps in the area. After the site was utilized by the Royal Naval in 1945, homeless individuals used the site until 1954 when the huts were removed, and the area returned to nature.

Hollywood lodge - Epsom

Hollywood Lodge

Date: 28-02-2020
Location: Epsom
Current state: Left to rot

While exploring a nearby hospital, we decided to check out Hollywood Lodge as well. This location seemed even creepier, despite being heavily damaged. Hollywood Lodge, also known as Horten Lodge, was built in the 1700s. A number of different people lived there until 1926. The site functioned as a mental health annex until it closed down in 2003. In 2005, much of the structure fell into disrepair.

West Park Hospital, Epsom - Scotts house

West Park Hospital, Epsom  - Scotts house

                                           Location: Epsom
                                           Abandoned or Public : Abandoned
                                           Delmoished:  Yes

I'm not sure how I found out about West Park Hospital, but it seemed interesting, so I did some more research. I found out that the only remaining part of it was Scott's house. I hopped in the car and headed up there to take a look. To my surprise, it was really easy to get into and explore, and there was so much stuff left behind, which was amazing. Later, I found out that it was demolished later that year, so I was glad I got to see it before that happened.

The hospital was said to have held around 2000 patients and was open as a mental hospital in 1923. It started to get run down by the mid-1990s and was completely closed in 2003. Demolition work started in 2010, and by 2011, most of it was gone. Only a few bits remained and were being restored into apartments.
