The Capel Battery - Kent

The Capel Battery

Date : May | location Folkstone | Delmoished - No

The Capel Battery at Capel-Le-Ferne recently held an open day, so I decided to head over to the Folkestone area to check it out. It turned out to be a fun little exploration with plenty of activities happening.

The battery was built between 1941 and 1942 and was manned by the 520 Royal Artillery. According to the information provided, the site would have had around 19 buildings. It also featured a plotting room, dressing station, and a shelter. I found the plotting room particularly interesting as it had two floors, which I had never seen before.

After the war, the site was abandoned, but in 2009, Mr. J. Button purchased the land. Since then, they have uncovered much of what was on the site and have been working to rebuild it.

It's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area during their open day!

Battle of Britain Memorial - Folkstone

 Battle of Britain Memorial

Date: August 2024
Location:  Kent
public/abandoned - Public

We are collecting the Wheels of Time badges, and this place is on the list. I didn't even know this place existed, but I was amazed. It was such a cool little experience because you get to see some planes up close, even though they are replicas, it's still extremely cool to see. And the best thing is, it's also free.

The Battle of Britain is a national memorial to the dedicated men who won it between 10 July and 31 October 1940.

Location:  Kent
public/abandoned - Abandoned

"We stumbled upon this place while exploring the area, and it came up on the map. We took a short walk to the observation post, and initially, I wasn't sure if we could get in. To my surprise, it was really easy to access. There wasn't much to see inside, as the building was in a state of decay and being overrun by nature."

I can't find much history on this battery observation point, but I know it would have been used in the wars like most others.

Martello tower 3 , ROC post site 1 & Coastal defence

Martello Tower 3 , ROC post site 1 & Coastal defense

Date:   March 2021

Location Folkstone

Public or Abandoned: Public

Demolished:  No

The roc post back dates to 1961 but closed not long after being opened because it moved location ,
The martello tower is a small round fort that is dotted all over the UK that had two floors in it.

We then headed up to Folkstone to go see Martello tower 3, iv known about this Martello tower for a long time just didn’t know too can walk up to it.

Once we got to the carpark, we got out of the car and made our way up to the Martello tower, unfortunately, the Martello tower was locked up, when exploring around the Martello tower turns out there also a roc post next to it called “ Site 1” but again very sealed up.

The little wonder around that area was nice, I had a quick look on maps and notice there was more to the site than just a Martello tower & roc post there was also a few remains of old costal defense building, One building had been converted into a cost guard watchtower and the other two just sit a little down the pathway

We made our way down to the other two defense buildings, Once was fully sealed up with no way looking in and the second one was a bit graffitied up but open

Time was getting on a bit so we called it a night as it starting to get a bit cold and our little one was tired

Overall was a fun few hours in Folkstone looking at all the Martello tower, Roc post, and Costal defence, and are little one enjoyed it to
