Western heights detached bastion

During our tours of Dover, we headed to Western Heights to explore the Watched Bastion. While it wasn't particularly extraordinary, it proved to be an enjoyable little adventure, and it was interesting to see. Locals refer to it as "Smokey," and you might encounter them in the area.
Western Heights is known as one of the most impressive fortifications in Britain. Built between the 18th and 19th centuries, these fortifications were designed to protect the key ports of Dover. By the 20th century, it had become the strongest fortification in the country.
