canterbury cathedral

Canterbury Cathedral

Date: August | Location: Canterbury  | Demolished: No

What can I say about this place? Just wow! It is so beautiful and amazing. I can't believe I had never been here before. There is a fee to enter the cathedral, but you pay once and can visit multiple times throughout the year. The place is stunning, though it does get really busy. It reminds me of something out of Hogwarts! The history begins with St. Augustine, who founded the first cathedral in 597 AD to turn Britain into a Christian nation. The cathedral is one of the oldest and most spiritual sites of the Anglican Church. In 1170, a murder occurred involving Archbishop Thomas Becket. Sadly, in late 1067, a fire damaged the cathedral significantly. During World War II, Canterbury was bombed, and the cathedral was a target. Even though it was hit, it survived.

Chatham Magazine Room

Chatham magazine Room

Date -  August | Location chatham  | Delmoished - No

I've always wondered what was behind those doors ever since I was a kid, but I never really knew. I always thought it was just storage for the bin men, as they often used it for that purpose. After seeing some recent photos online, I decided to take a look, and it turns out it's an old magazine room.

There's not much history available online about this at the moment, but due to the local knowledge that Fort Amhurst used to be nearby, it's possible that it has something to do with Fort Amhurst back in the day.

The Shorts Scion G-AZF Display - Rochester

 The Shorts Scion G-AZF

Date Augusut |  location Rochester  |  delmoished  - No

I've been aware of this display at the beautiful Rochester Cathedral for a while now, and I kept meaning to go see it. So, on Saturday, when I had a hair appointment, I thought I would stop by the cathedral on my way back to my car to check it out. It was pretty amazing to see, and the aircraft is much larger than I expected.

According to the history board in front of the display, the aircraft was designed by the Shorts Brothers in 1933 and could hold 4-6 people. It also mentioned that only 22 planes were built, and they were used for various services. This model, G-AZF, was the last of six to be built and was completed in 1937.

After this plane was decommissioned, it was left to deteriorate. However, in June 2013, the remains of the plane were acquired by MAPSL, which restored it thanks to a grant from Rochester Bridge.

All Saints Church, Birchington Kent

 All Saints Church

Date August | Location  birchington | delmoished - No

We were in Birchington for the day because we were going to a farm, and we happened to walk past this church. By chance, we decided to check it out. Once we walked inside, we were greeted by a local who owned the church, and we spoke with them before taking some photos. There were many people coming in and out of the church to have a look. I later learned that it is only open at set times during the day, so I guess I was lucky since this visit wasn't even planned. It is said that the church is one of the oldest buildings in Birchington and that it may have stood there since Saxon times. Between 1863 and 1883, the Victorians made major renovations. The building is believed to be Grade II listed.
