one Sunday afternoon in October - we headed up to Portsmouth for one are family day out and head over to Fort Nelson

once we arrived we went to the reception to get our tickets which are FREE and we only had to pay £3 for parking what I thought was good.

we were then on our the way to explore the fort - a huge amount of the fort was open to the public including tunnels and a magazine room with lots of information about how the fort was built and also how it was used through the war.

overall it was a really good family day out

it said that fort nelson is one of  five forts that are built-in ports downhill back in the 1860s, overlooking and protecting the naval base,  Fort nelson is  a grade 1 listed fort,   Sadly in 1950's the fort came abandoned, but was brought by the Hampshire council in 1975, the site at the time had a £3/4million  pounds spent on it where it was open to the public in 1994
