 Thetford Priory

Date:  January 2022

Location:  Thetford

Public or Abandoned:   Public

Demolished:  No

Thetford priory is about a 3hr drive from us but was the 2/3 locations we explore this day, sadly the first location we check out was closed due to maintenance, Thankfully the weather held out and it was not as cold as we thought it was going to be,

Thetford Priory is an English heritage site and is one of the there many free sites you can go and explore due to daylight hours and is a very decent size Compared to some there is another free site that is normally small sites.

It said that Thetford priory backdates to at least the 12th century and is one the largest/important monasteries from medieval times.

This was our last explore of the day, again another nice little public location, the site is looked after by  Churches Conservation Trust, so when visiting be respectful.

i went to this location on my own my other half and our daughter waited in the car as she fell asleep and didn't want to wake up,

we parked up close as we could outside the gate, and I walked down through the graveyard to the church ruins that are hidden right at the back, to these amazing ruins,

it said that this church is a redundant Anglican church,  and is also grade two listed.

to start our day off we drove down to Colchester to have a look at this little priory, i personally didn't think it was worth the 76m drive but we do other things in the area too , it was pretty cold and their kids running over the graves that were in the priory;/

don't get me wrong the place is very interesting but just in a bit off an odd place to be hosted. only

worth viewing if you're in the area.

it is said that the priory back dates to medieval times, it was built with flint and roman rock, but in 1648 it got badly damaged by a cannon.
