Whitstable Community Museum - Kent

Whitstable Museum

Date May | Location Kent | Demolished No |

.My daughter and I decided to spend a day in the Whitstable and Herne Bay area, simply because we wanted to explore. While we were there, we thought we’d check off another location from the Wheels of Time list, which was the Whitstable Museum. Although it’s small, the museum is still very interesting. We even participated in a little hunt inside the museum, which my daughter found fun as she looked for items to mark off our list. There is a small admission fee, but it's quite reasonable. Overall, it's a fascinating place that offers great insight into Whitstable's history.

Roman painted house - Dover

 Roman Painted House

date May | Location Dover | delmosihed - No

This was a quick visit as we were doing the Wheels of Time trail. I had visited this place once before on Heritage Open Day back in 2024. such a lovely hidden gem, and it's also free to visit, with lots of rich history.

It is said that the Painted House was discovered around the 1970s during excavations on the site. It is believed to have been built around 200 AD as part of a Roman military installation. The site opened for visitors in 1977 but was closed for a time in 2022. It reopened in September 2024 for Heritage Day and open again in spring 2025.

The Capel Battery - Kent

The Capel Battery

Date : May | location Folkstone | Delmoished - No

The Capel Battery at Capel-Le-Ferne recently held an open day, so I decided to head over to the Folkestone area to check it out. It turned out to be a fun little exploration with plenty of activities happening.

The battery was built between 1941 and 1942 and was manned by the 520 Royal Artillery. According to the information provided, the site would have had around 19 buildings. It also featured a plotting room, dressing station, and a shelter. I found the plotting room particularly interesting as it had two floors, which I had never seen before.

After the war, the site was abandoned, but in 2009, Mr. J. Button purchased the land. Since then, they have uncovered much of what was on the site and have been working to rebuild it.

It's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area during their open day!

St Augustine's Cross - kent

 St Augustine cross

Date - May | Location Kent | delmoished - no

There isn't much to say about this one, other than we only stopped to look at it because I needed a safe place to pull over. As the saying goes, "kill two birds with one stone." I checked out this cross, and while it was interesting, I definitely wouldn’t go out of my way to visit just for it.

This cross dates back to the 19th century.

All Saints Church, Lydd

 All Saints Church, Lydd

Date April | Location Kent | Delmoihsed -  No

I have to say, this church was quite charming and much larger than I expected. It is also very interesting. Unfortunately, the tower was closed, so I couldn't go inside, but I plan to check it out another day. We didn't spend too much time there since we needed to head home. The sunlight shining through the stained glass was lovely as well.

According to the information I found, the building is Grade I listed. During World War II, the church was severely damaged by bombs, but it was restored afterward. It is believed to have been built around the 5th century and boasts one of the tallest towers in the country, standing at 132 feet.

abandoned House millbrook

 Abandoned House Millbrook

Date April | location Millbrook | Delmoished -Kinda |

We were going to another location when we stopped at this site. There isn’t much to say about our exploration since we couldn't find a way into the house. We only managed to see the outbuildings, but they're heavily overgrown.

This house has little history; it reportedly was the station master's residence, but this cannot be confirmed or denied.
