holy trinity church Queenborough - Kent

 Holy Trinity Church

Date: Jan
Location: Queensborough
demolished: no

I found this church online, so I decided to head over to Queenborough to check it out. The church itself is stunning, and the atmosphere there is truly special. It’s so beautiful and peaceful inside.

I learned that the church was built around 1367 and originally had a tower with six bells. It also mentioned that the ceiling painting was completed in 1968, but it was damaged by a fire in the 1930s. Fortunately, they were able to restore the painting.

The church is open during daylight hours.

Gala Bingo / Buzz Bingo Hall - Chatham - medway

 Buzz Bingo/ Gala Bingo Hall

Date  January 2025
Location: Chatham
Delmoished  - No

I have known about the bingo hall ever since it closed down in 2020, and I have always wanted to get inside. One random Thursday evening, I finally had the chance. I was excited! Living in the Medway area, I used to go to that bingo hall before it closed, so it holds some special memories for me.

Once I arrived at the bingo hall, I walked in and met up with my friends who had come with me. We spent about an hour to an hour and a half inside, and it was fun exploring the place.

It was fun to see the hall and behind-the-scenes areas of some places that you wouldn't normally access. This hall is quite large; I remember it being smaller.

Unfortunately, Buzz Bingo in Chatham closed down in 2020, becoming one of the many venues affected by COVID-19, along with 26 other sites across the UK. The building was acquired by a housing company with plans to convert the former bingo hall.

This site had been operating for around 80 years as a venue, originally serving as a cinema before being transformed into a bingo hall. It started as Gala Bingo but suffered a fire in 1998 and almost faced demolition. However, due to public demand, it was rebuilt and reopened as a bingo hall in the early 2000s, continuing operations until its closure in 2020.

A budget of £9.5 million is now allocated to convert the site into 174 flats and a few other developments.

Elton Mill, Elton, Cambridgeshire

Elton Mill

Date - January
Location - Elton
Demolished - no

This was our last exploration of the day, and I have to say the start was quite challenging because almost every single cow was in the field, and I really dislike cows. Once we got inside, we were only there for a short period of time since it was getting dark outside. We managed to have a quick look around, but I must say I definitely won’t be returning to this location because it felt quite spooky.
Once we left the mill, all the cows disappeared, and I was relieved!

The mill dates back to around 1800, possibly even earlier. It was granted Grade II listed status in 1988 and was used for corn milling. In the 1990s, it briefly opened as a tourist attraction but sadly closed down again. There was also a house that used to be attached to the mill, but it was demolished around 1881.

RAF Warboys -The F.C. Mushroom Pillbox

 Warboys Mushroom Pillbox

Date: January
Location: Cambridgeshire
Delmoished - No

Since we were nearby, we decided to check out the pillbox and the surrounding area. I have seen many pillboxes in my time, but I had never encountered one like this before, so it was interesting to see. Getting to it was really easy, but our visit was cut short when we witnessed a dog trying to attack a hare, which spooked my daughter. As a result, we walked back to the car. There are other sites in the area that I want to explore, and we plan to return at a later date. These pillboxes were designed to provide a 360-degree view.
