A299 - Thanet way pillbox

 A299 Thant Way pillbox

Date May | Location Kent | Demolished No

I have always driven past the Thant Way pillbox whenever I go down the coast, so this time I decided to stop and take a look with my daughter. On the way home from our day out, we stopped to explore the pillbox. It was around 7 PM, and with the sun starting to set, the scene looked quite picturesque. Like most pillboxes, it followed a similar layout. I believe this one is a Type 24 pillbox.

St Mary the Virgin's Church, Hastingleigh - Kent

 St Mary the Virgin's Church

Date May | Location Kent | Delmoished - No |

I was in the area checking things out when I stumbled across this pretty little church. We parked outside and headed in. At first, it looked like the door was locked, but as we got closer, we saw it was open. According to the guestbook, someone had not long been there before us. The church is laid out similarly to most others, and it has the same vibe, but it's pretty in its own way. It’s said that the church dates back around 700 years and has been used for worship since then. The oldest part of the church is believed to date back to the Saxon period.

Kent Firefighting Museum

 Kent Firefighting Museum

Date May | location Kent | Delmoished - No

I discovered this hidden gem by chance on Google Maps, and I'm so glad I did! It's tucked away at the back of a garden center. The museum features several fire trucks from different eras, which are extremely interesting to see. There's so much history and memorabilia on display, showcasing how things have changed over the years. They even have a large, disused fire truck for kids to play on in their little park. The site is also very tidy, clean, and well-kept.

Cotten-Well museam - Kent

 Cotton-Well museum

date May | Location Kent | Delmoished - no

We visited another location on the Wheels of Time trail, and I have to say, this has to be the most unusual place I have ever been to. It also creeped me out a bit (sorry about that). The taxidermy exhibits looked so real that it was kind of spooky, but the place was interesting to explore as well. The site is slightly hidden, but it’s easy to find once you park.

The Seaside Museam - Hernbay

 The Seaside Museam

Date May | Location Kent | Delmoished  No

This was another location we visited on the Wheels of Time trail in Kent, where we discovered many hidden gems. I must say, the number of times I've been to Herne Bay and never knew this place was here is quite surprising. The museum has a small entrance fee, but it is of fair size and offer interesting information about the history of the area. So, if you're ever in Herne Bay, be sure to check out this little hidden gem that is easily visible!
