Reinden Wood ( MOD Woodlands ) - Kent

 Reiden Woods

Date - December
Location  - kent
Demolished  - No

For my last exploration of 2024, I visited Reiden Woods. Walking through these woods was incredibly peaceful, and I truly appreciated the calm surroundings. I found it particularly interesting that there are numerous information boards that explain the various features of the area. Even though this is Ministry of Defence land, they have opened up a footpath for visitors to wander through the woods.

What initially drew me to these woods was the air raid shelter. I spoke to a local who mentioned that there are all kinds of fascinating things scattered around. Unfortunately, I couldn't access all the areas I wanted to explore because some parts were closed off.

St Margaret - hucking

 St Margaret

Date  December
location: Kent
Demolished: No

This was a random little adventure I had with my 4-year-old. I have to say, I was not impressed with the fog that rolled in, as it made it difficult to see anything. However, the church itself was really pretty, and it even had a Christmas tree still set up. The church is quite beautiful.

It is said that this church dates back to around norman times, but it was restored in 1870.

Gun emplacement / Small pillbox - Citadel battery

 Gun placement / Small Pillbox

Date December
location Dover
Delmoished No

This was an interesting find! I have been up here a few times and never saw this until now. I must say, it’s quite fascinating to see, as I have never encountered a gun placement or pillbox like this before. It is described as a non-standard design that dates back to World War II. Additionally, it is noted that this pillbox is a two-phased structure and features a Type A quad.

St Martins Battery Type 23 pillbox pillbox 2

 Type 23 pillbox

Date - December
Location - Dover
Demolished - No

This one was dug out a few years ago ,

I was in Dover exploring some pillboxes and decided to check out this one to take some photos. Funny enough, I took a difficult route to get there, only to find that the steps had been dug out, which made me laugh.

Like the other pillboxes in the area, this one is a Type 23 used during WWII. The only difference with this one is that it has two embrasures at the end of the wall.

St Martins Battery - Type 23 pillbox pillbox One

  Type 23  Pillbox

Date - December
Location: Dover
Delmoised: No

I have known about this pillbox since I started visiting Dover in 2017. I likely have some photos of it on my blog from when I explored the old emergency battery nearby. The pillbox is wide open and, unfortunately, has been covered in graffiti over the years. However, it is still interesting to see how it has been left for visitors to explore.

Similar to many other pillboxes, this one is a Type 23 used in WWII. The only difference with this one is that it has two embrasures at the end of the wall.

DOVER QUAD pillbox - St martins Battery

Dover Quad Pillbox

Date: December
Location: Dover
Delmoished - Semi

I explored a pillbox today, and I have to say I've never seen one like this before. It was really interesting to discover. The visit was brief, as there isn't much to see at this pillbox. If it weren't for the maps I use to locate these sites, I wouldn't have known it was there, especially considering how many times I've been to Dover and the st martins  Battery area.

According to the information provided, the damage to this pillbox occurred when it was hit by the enemy during World War II..

Cliffe Cement Works - Cliffe Medway

Cliffe Cement works

Date: December

Location:  Cliffe - Medway

Public or Abandoned: Abandoned

Demolished:  No

I have visited this place several times since 2016, but this time I decided to explore even more to see what I might have missed. To my surprise, I discovered a lot more than I expected, including additional kilns. This photo shows some of the cement work in the Cliffe area, while there is another kiln at Marsh Featherback (I plan to return another day to take photos of it).

It was fascinating to explore a less frequented area that people usually overlook, as it requires some climbing to reach. Unfortunately, I couldn't find much information about the history of the cement works. The only detail I could gather was that it possibly dates back to 1866.
