Hougham Hole deep shelter - dover

Hougham Hole Deep shelter

Date : 28-01-2018
Location : Dover
Access : No

"I didn't know much about this deep shelter, as we were shown it by another explorer. Getting to it was not fun as there were thorny bushes, but it was worth it in the end. I also saw a cute bat, which seems to be a common thing in tunnels around Dover. Like most shelters, it was laid out the same, so nothing amazing, but it was still cool to see."

The history of this place is somewhat unclear, with contradictory information about its past use. Some sources claim it was used during World War II, while others say it was abandoned and later used by the fire service for tunnel training during the construction of the Channel Tunnel. There isn't much else available about these tunnels.
