Today, we set out to explore a historic fort that we had come across numerous times online. . However, upon arrival, we were disappointed to find that we couldn't fully explore the site. The tunnels, which promised to be an intriguing part of our visit, were flooded and inaccessible, limiting our adventure.
This fort, constructed in 1860, was originally built to defend the Thames from potential sea attacks. It served an important purpose for many years but was decommissioned between 1896 and 1907. After the conclusion of World War II, the fort was left abandoned and gradually fell into disrepair. Ultimately, it was demolished in the 1960s, but its rich history still lingers in the memories of those who appreciate its past. Despite the challenges we faced, visiting the fort was a valuable experience, and we were glad to have the opportunity to connect with a piece of history.
