fordwich town hall

 Fordwich town hall

Date April | Location Kent  | Delmoished No

This location was part of the Wheels of Time trail and is a little hidden gem. It was a bit challenging to reach due to road closures that forced us to take a long diversion. However, once we arrived, we spent some time exploring the town hall. Although it was quite small, it was still fascinating and enjoyable, even on a very hot day. The hall itself has been used for various purposes, and the volunteers there were lovely.

The building is Grade II listed and dates back to around the 15th century. It is constructed from the original timbers and has served as a courtroom, complete with a jail cell. It is said that the gaol was last used in 1855, where two men were convicted. The town hall can accommodate around 30-35 guests for ceremonies.

Type 24 pillbox - Staple Kent

 Type 24

Date April | Location kent | Demloished - No

This was an unexpected stop. We were driving down a country lane to reach another location when we noticed this pillbox and decided to stop. I have to say, like most pillboxes, this one was slightly different; it looked like the middle section had been removed, but I could be completely wrong. The area was a bit overgrown with nettles, but it wasn't anything major. We took a quick look around and then got back in the car to continue on to our next destination.

Most pillboxes were built during World War II and were used in the war.

Church of St Mary the Virgin, Fordwich

Church of St Mary the Virgin, Fordwich

Date : April | Location - Fordwich | Delmoished - No

This was our last exploration of the day, and it happened to be right next to the town hall. After visiting the town hall, we headed over to a charming little redundant church that was surprisingly open, which I was grateful for since it is quite hidden away. We took a look inside, and although many churches may seem similar, each one has its own unique feeling and layout. We didn't stay too long because it was really hot outside, and we wanted to get back to the other end of Kent without getting caught in traffic.

This church is located in Fordwich, Kent, and is a redundant church that is also a Grade I listed building. It primarily dates back to the Norman era but does contain some Anglo-Saxon elements. The chapel of the church was added around the 12th century.

The Round house - Bromborough Bedfordshire

 The Round House

Date April | Location Bedforshire | Delmoised - Almost

This exploration was both fun and interesting, but at the same time, it was a bit of a pain. Getting to the location was easy since we just followed the footpath that led right to it. However, the area was very overgrown, so we had to fight through the brambles while looking around.

There were some cool features, and it was enjoyable to explore; my 4-year-old had a great time.

I couldn't find much history about this house, except that it was destroyed by a fire in the 1990s. The site is said to be Grade II listed and was built around the 1700s.

Crabcorn mill - Dover

 Crabcorn Mill

Date April | location Dover | demolished No

This hidden gem is part of the Wheels Got Time Trail, and we finally managed to visit it. We had tried a few times before, but it was closed for the season (my fault for not checking). Overall, this hidden gem is worth a visit. You can take a guided tour or opt for a self-guided tour. We chose the self-guided tour so we could explore at our own pace, and we really enjoyed our time there. The mill dates back to around 1812, and it was saved from demolition. It opened to the public around 1990

St Peter & St Paul - Milton Keynes

St Peters & St Pauls

Date April | Location Milton keynes | demolished - No

During our journey to another location, we made a stop at a charming church. I must say, the interior was truly beautiful. While many churches may appear similar, each one has its own unique character. We didn’t spend much time there since it was just a brief visit. The church is Grade I listed and is situated in a small village with around 500 residents. It is the oldest building in the village.

st augustine's church romney marsh

 St Augustine Church

Date April | Location Kent | Delmoished - no

I have to say I wasn't very keen on this church. To be honest, it felt a bit too popular for my taste. While exploring, there were about two or three other groups of people who came in to look around, and the vibe of the church felt a bit strange. However, overall, it was a nice little place to visit while I was in the area. I have also never seen doors on a church like this before.

It is said that the church is Grade I listed and is a Gothic church, built around 1250.
